The Port Authority officer, who was investigating unlicensed cab drivers, saw illegal hack Surjit Dhillon, 31, trying to hustle fares at Terminal 7, around 8 p.m., Monday, officials said.
When the officer asked to see Dhillon’s license, the rogue cabbie floored the gas, mowing the cop down and dragging him 75 feet, officials said.
The black Lincoln Town Car swerved and mounted the sidewalk while dragging the officer, witnesses said.
The driver sped northbound on the Van Wyck Expressway and other cops called for backup stopped him at Rockaway Parkway, where the wild-eyed driver refused to get out of the car and struggled with officers, sources said.
The 20-year-veteran, whose name was not released because of his investigative work, was taken to North Shore Hospital. Doctors put a cast on his ankle and wrist while also treating him for severe road rash.
Dhillon was charged with felony assault, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and resisting arrest, said Port Authority Police Department Spokesman Joe Pentangelo. His bail was set at $50,000
